{"id":363027,"date":"2025-12-21T18:53:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T18:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/363027\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T18:53:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T18:53:09","slug":"pga-tour-veteran-fumes-at-liv-golf-players-f-them-they-made-their-choice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/363027\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour veteran fumes at LIV Golf players: &#8220;F&#8212; them, they made their choice&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Should prominent LIV Golf players be allowed to return to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tours\/pga-tour\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"2a113a33-7dfe-494e-bc65-4465fd7ab6fb\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"PGA Tour\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PGA Tour<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>This is a question officials at the North American circuit may need to ask themselves sooner rather than later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that at least two players, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/brooks-koepka\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"5afa99fd-7484-4c59-bf2c-7368bc30b1e6\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Brooks Koepka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooks Koepka<\/a> and Bryson DeChambeau, are yet to put pen to paper on new contracts. Both of their deals expire at the end of 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For Koepka, there are unsubstantiated reports that the 35-year-old American is unhappy and may sit out the entire LIV Golf season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Such a decision would mean that Koepka would serve the necessary one-year suspension in order to be eligible to return to the PGA Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>A bargaining tactic to try and eek out a few extra million?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-08-25t001831z_1470550227_mt1usatoday26921277_rtrmadp_3_golf-liv-golf-michigan-team-championship.jpeg\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Bryson DeChambeau\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Bryson DeChambeau<\/p>\n<p>Koepka has not commented on the reports and LIV&#8217;s chief executive, Scott O&#8217;Neil, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/liv-golf\/liv-golf-ceo-makes-announcement-regarding-brooks-koepkas-future\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"231b788c-c91c-4aaa-a15b-da56366c3443\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"LIV Golf CEO makes announcement regarding Brooks Koepka&#039;s future \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">offered a cryptic response when asked about the rumour<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The school of thought surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/bryson-dechambeau\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"242767b9-c064-41ee-8466-f7a85ab9a8cc\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Bryson DeChambeau\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DeChambeau<\/a> is he doesn&#8217;t see a future other than with LIV Golf, but will likely want another gargantuan figure to put pen to paper on another multi-year deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Still, even if the DeChambeau and Koepka decide their LIV Golf journeys are over, it doesn&#8217;t sound like the PGA Tour&#8217;s player directors are enthused about entertaining the topic of reintegration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One prominent PGA Tour veteran weighed in on the issue when asked by Eamon Lynch for his most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/golfweek-eu.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/pga\/2025\/12\/20\/lynch-pga-tour-needs-plan-for-when-liv-star-comes-knocking-path-back-is-not-complicated\/87864159007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golfweek<\/a> column.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lynch believes the PGA Tour need a plan if and when a bona fide star comes knocking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The unnamed player said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;F*** them. They made their choice. If they&#8217;re that important, how come no fans followed them to LIV?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>There was once a time when it did seem likely that some LIV stars could return.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Merger talks between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV&#8217;s financiers &#8211; the Saudi PIF &#8211; began in June 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The establishment and LIV entered 2025 with the deal very much in limbo, but there was huge optimism of a breakthrough in February.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/taxonomy\/term\/27582\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tiger Woods<\/a> told reporters that talks were moving in the right direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His comments coincided after several meetings at the White House after American president Donald Trump intervened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we&#8217;re in a very positive place right now,&#8221; Woods said during the CBS Sports broadcast of the Genesis Open in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a meeting with the president. We&#8217;re going to get this game going in the right direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has been headed in the wrong direction for a number of years. The fans want all the top players playing together and we&#8217;re going to make that happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Guardian, the PGA Tour rejected LIV Golf&#8217;s &#8220;take it or leave it offer&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is said to have included a $1.5bn investment in PGA Tour Enterprises, so long as LIV could continue operating in the same form.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that LIV&#8217;s chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, also wanted a top role in the Tour&#8217;s commercial entity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since then, there have been no substantial updates and it seems as though there will never be an agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Justin Thomas weighs in on thorny issue    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-09-28t215604z_286297324_up1el9s1oxfeq_rtrmadp_3_golf-rydercup_2.JPG\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Justin Thomas\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Justin Thomas<\/p>\n<p>Multiple PGA Tour winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/justin-thomas\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"9bd973fb-dd3f-4321-98bc-ae548143d786\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Justin Thomas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Thomas<\/a> spoke to the Straight Facts Homie podcast this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other than discussing Ryder Cup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/ryder-cup\/what-united-states-ryder-cup-team-need-address-according-jt\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"ab972647-04bb-44ad-ab71-c9e6afc9cb3c\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"PGA Tour golfer Justin Thomas makes brutally honest Ryder Cup admission\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disappointment<\/a>, Thomas said that multiple Tour players are &#8220;over&#8221; the divide in the sport and would simply like the best players in the world competing together again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thomas is fortunate, he said, that working out how LIV players could return was way above his pay grade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what that path back looks like,&#8221; said Thomas. &#8220;I think it&#8217;d be nice to figure out whatever that is.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fortunately, that is so far above my pay grade that I don\u2019t have to make those decisions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But, hopefully, sooner rather than later, there\u2019s something that happens, just for the betterment of everybody wanting to watch golf.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the noise is at least settled of how bad it was a couple years ago or whatever.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But, I&#8217;m sure, some of those guys, maybe didn&#8217;t go how they had planned or how they had hoped, to where I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;re looking, like how bad Jon Rahm would love to be playing Torrey Pines and Riviera and The Players and stuff like that.
