It seems inevitable that the only thing on the cards for Wolves<\/a> is relegation.<\/p>\n

Even with a new manager brought in mid-season, their luckless story survives: no wins, nine goals and the chance to escape a relegation scrap moving further out of reach<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That story is one that has already got the fans offside with the team they support week in, week out, with chants of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” now flooding the stands.<\/p>\n

A chance to escape the relegation zone is one that the Wolves playing group are hopeful will come their way, but the reality is the club is on track for a major crisis.<\/p>\n

A loss to Fulham on the first week of November marked the end of Vitor Pereira’s time with the club<\/a>, departing just months after inking a long-term deal with Wolves.<\/p>\n

Weeks later, the club’s troubling pattern of being unable to escape defeat had yet to find its end, with new manager Rob Edwards on a six-game losing streak.<\/p>\n

Edwards has vowed that he will keep fighting to get the team back on track and told his playing group that no one can give up, regardless of what the scoreboard looks like.<\/p>\n

Some fans and pundits have questioned why the 42-year-old decided to take on the job knowing that Wolves were not in a good place when he arrived. <\/p>\n

But if there is one thing that will be on his Christmas wish list, it will be a Wolves miracle.<\/p>\n

At the start of the season, they became the first team in the league’s history to start consecutive campaigns with a 10-game losing streak.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Wolves etched their names in the history books alongside Sheffield United as the teams with the least points leading into the Christmas in Premier League<\/a> history.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Sheffield’s tragic 2020-21 season was impacted by the COVID pandemic and only 14 games had been played by Christmas. Wolves have played 17. <\/p>\n

Across all 14 of Europe’s top divisions, Wolves have the worst record this season. Only Enosis Neon Paralimni FC have fewer points, sitting in last (14th) with one point on the Cypriot First Division.<\/p>\n

Football’s new home, Stan Sport<\/a>, is the only place to watch the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, WSL, European World Cup qualifiers, J.League, NSWL and K League<\/p>\n

Yet all those negative statistics and traits are not worrying Edwards.<\/p>\n

“It’s not great (the 17-game losing streak), but I haven’t mentioned it,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s not something we’ll go talking about all the time.<\/p>\n

“We need to keep the lads believing a little bit and not be too negative around the place. They are all aware of the situation because there’s no hiding from it.<\/p>\n

“From the training and atmosphere around the place, it doesn’t feel like it’s all doom and gloom, or it’s all lost.”<\/p>\n

It is a drastic change for the team that only eight years ago were promoted from the Championship into the top flight, going on to compete in FA Cup and Europa league matches.<\/p>\n

Back-to-back seventh-place finishes gave Wolves fans hope back in 2019 and 2020. Now, they are ending some of their matches in front of a virtually empty home stadium.<\/p>\n

It is not an easy run through the festive period either for Wolves, with Liverpool their first match-up after Christmas followed by Manchester United, West Ham and Everton.<\/p>\n

The January transfer window will be one Wolves hope they do well in, whether that be securing a permanent talent or finding success in the loan market.<\/p>\n
