Ayush Minister Highlights Ayurveda\u2019s Key Role in Building a Healthier India<\/p>\n
On Monday, Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav emphasised the significant role that Ayurvedic institutions and traditional medicine systems can play in advancing India\u2019s broader health vision. He said they must work in harmony with modern medicine to build a healthier nation. Jadhav made these remarks in a virtual address at the Padmabhushan Dr P.K. Warrier Memorial Ayurveda Seminar held at the India International Centre in Delhi.<\/p>\n
Kerala-based Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, which is one of India\u2019s oldest traditional medicine institutions, organised the event. The seminar marked a significant moment as it was conducted outside Kerala for the first time in its 62-year history. According to the minister, this highlights the growing national footprint of Ayurveda and its potential to contribute to India\u2019s \u201cSwasth Bharat\u201d mission.<\/p>\n
Jadhav emphasised that the Ministry of Ayush is actively working to integrate age-old traditional systems, especially Ayurveda, with modern healthcare approaches to promote their collective contribution to preventive care, wellness, and public health. He pointed to the exemplary work of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, noting that its efforts in preserving, promoting and applying ancient Ayurvedic knowledge with scientific sensibilities have been \u201cextremely inspiring\u201d.<\/p>\n
Dr P.M. Varier, Managing Trustee and Chief Physician of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, said the institution decided to hold the seminar in Delhi to send a message of unity across regions, stressing that \u201cNorth or South, Ayurveda is one.\u201d He called for collective action towards growth, glory and globalisation of Ayurveda while balancing tradition with science.<\/p>\n
Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala\u2019s charitable hospital network has reportedly treated over 20 million patients in the last decade, delivering free Ayurveda care, meals, accommodation and medicine to hundreds of thousands annually.<\/p>\n
The Ayush ministry also noted steps to promote exports and global recognition of Ayurvedic products and practices, with more than 25 countries reportedly recognising Ayurveda. Additionally, nearly 100 countries participated recently in a WHO Global Summit, agreeing on the promotion of traditional medicine systems, including Ayurveda and yoga, the ministry said.<\/p>\n
