\n\tMagnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to \u201cLate Fame<\/a>,\u201d the acclaimed new film from \u201cDiane\u201d director Kent Jones<\/a>. It world premiered at this year\u2019s Venice Film Festival and later played at the New York Film Festival. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLate Fame\u201d stars Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe, as well as \u201cPast Lives\u201d breakout Greta Lee. Edmund Donovan (\u201cCivil War\u201d) co-stars. Magnolia plans to release the film in 2026. Jones, who was the former director of the New York Film Festival, also made the documentary \u201cHitchcock\/Truffaut.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film was written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Samy Burch (\u201cMay December\u201d) and is based on Arthur Schnitzler\u2019s novella of the same name. It follows Ed Saxberger (Dafoe), a forgotten New York poet who works in a post office. After an eager and flattering fan (Donovan) appears on his doorstep, Saxberger is beckoned into a coterie of younger admirers who anoint him as a rediscovered genius. Intoxicated by the attention, and by the alluring presence of Gloria (Lee), the group\u2019s \u201ctragic heroine,\u201d Saxberger gradually reckons with the authenticity of his newfound poetic circle. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWith \u2018Late Fame,\u2019 Kent Jones cements his status as an exquisite cinematic artist,\u201d said Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley. \u201cWillem Dafoe\u2019s memorable performance, ably abetted by the rest of the terrific cast, anchors a beautifully complex tale.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMagnolia has previously released Paul Schrader\u2019s Venice crime thriller \u201cMaster Gardener,\u201d Alexander Nanau\u2019s Oscar-nominated documentary \u201cCollective\u201d; Cannes Palme d\u2019Or winners and Oscar-nominated \u201cShoplifters\u201d and \u201cThe Square\u201d; and Raoul Peck\u2019s Oscar-nominated \u201cI Am Not Your Negro.\u201d<\/p>\n
