{"id":365668,"date":"2025-12-23T01:16:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T01:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/365668\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T01:16:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T01:16:07","slug":"toronto-maple-leafs-fire-assistant-coach-marc-savard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/365668\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Maple Leafs fire assistant coach Marc Savard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> have fired assistant coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/marc-savard\/8462118\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/marc-savard\/8462118\" target=\"_blank\">Marc Savard<\/a>, the team announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Savard, 48, was hired by the club on June 23, 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was in charge of the Leafs\u2019 league-worst power play, which converted at 13.3 per cent and has allowed four shorthanded goals this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that it does not sound like the Leafs will be bringing someone in to replace Savard and will search in-house for a solution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Leafs (15-15-5) sit last in the Atlantic Division and second last in the Eastern Conference with 35 points through 35 games. The team dropped a 5-1 decision to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Stars<\/a> on Sunday night, their third consecutive loss. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Savard began his coaching career with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/st-louis-blues\/19\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/st-louis-blues\/19\" target=\"_blank\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> in 2019-20 as an assistant, before moving to head coach of the OHL\u2019s Windsor Spitfires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He returned to the NHL as assistant coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/calgary-flames\/20\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/calgary-flames\/20\" target=\"_blank\">Calgary Flames<\/a> in 2023-24 before moving to the Maple Leafs for the 2024-25 season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Savard played 807 games over his NHL career with the Flames, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-rangers\/3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-rangers\/3\" target=\"_blank\">New York Rangers<\/a>, Atlanta Thrashers, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/boston-bruins\/6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/boston-bruins\/6\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Bruins<\/a>, registering 207 goals and 706 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired assistant coach Marc Savard, the team announced on Monday.
