The sentences would be served at the same time as their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com.au\/prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"prison\">prison<\/a> terms for related federal charges.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/0cb6d9b4-d313-4fdb-88d5-ffa5d88c52ef.jpeg\"   alt=\"\"\/>Jon was said to be the ringleader in the scheme, even though Carie was the face of the business. (AP)<\/p>\n<p>Victims\u2019 family members wanted each of them sentenced to 191 years \u2014 which would include one year for each victim.<\/p>\n<p>Some also said the Hallfords shouldn&#8217;t be able to serve both the state and federal sentences at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Hallford is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6, Carie Hallford is set to be sentenced April 24.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by a group of victims\u2019 family members had said they wanted to have the cases proceed to trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case is not about convenience or efficiency,\u201d said Crystina Page, whose son\u2019s body was among those found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is about human beings who were treated as disposable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Accepting a plea agreement sends the message that this level of abuse is negotiable. (AP)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI apologise to my mother every day for trusting these people,\u201d she told state District Judge Eric Bentley.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for both Hallford urged Bentley to accept the plea agreements, which will also ban them from working in the funeral home industry.<\/p>\n<p>Carie Hallford\u2019s lawyer, Beau Worthington, noted that she would be eligible to be sentenced to probation if she was convicted after a trial.<\/p>\n<p>In a rare decision, Bentley earlier this year rejected previous plea agreements that called for up to 20 years in prison, with family members of the deceased saying the proposed punishments were too lenient.<\/p>\n<p>Bentley praised families of the victims for their advocacy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com.au\/courts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"court\">court<\/a>, which he said resulted in the sentence ranges being lengthened dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are really meaningful changes from where I sit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/98533ae1-4c07-4c69-a302-569df53d6549.jpeg\"   alt=\"Investigators said the bodies were decomposing in an insect infested room when they were initially found.\"\/>Investigators said the bodies were decomposing in an insect infested room when they were initially found.
