The Newcastle rugby community is banding together to support the family of one of its own following the sudden death of Sam Morgan, a much-loved figure within the sporting fraternity.<\/p>\n
A member of the Hamilton Hawks and brother to Wallaroos star Layne, the 29-year-old recently lost his battle with a rare and aggressive form of streptococcal pneumonia sepsis, a condition that affects only about three-in-100,000 people.<\/p>\n
His illness progressed rapidly, overwhelming his body and leading to organ failure despite every effort to save him.<\/p>\n
Sadly, he leaves behind fianc\u00e9e Chloe and their 22-month-old son, Rome.<\/p>\n
A GoFundMe page, established by sister Gemma Mills, has already raised more than $55,000, a sign of how highly-regarded Sam was to all who knew him.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all hurting with the loss of an amazing human being,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve started this fund to help support Sam\u2019s young family with funeral expenses and to ease the financial burden during this devastating time, allowing them space to grieve and focus on caring for Rome.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny contribution, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated and will help honour him memory and the life he worked so hard to build.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis sudden passing, at just 29, is unfathomable.<\/p>\n
\u201cSam was a genuine, kind and hardworking man who loved deeply and would do anything and everything for everyone around him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe took immense pride in his home\u2026 one he built with his own hands with the dream of one day passing it on to his beloved son, Rome.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Hunter Wildfires also led the many tributes this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Morgan, beloved son, brother, partner and father,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with his family \u2014 especially his sister Layne, a former player and proud club member, and his father Shane, a dedicated coach in our women\u2019s program.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hearts also go out to Sam\u2019s fianc\u00e9e Chloe, their son Rome, and all who loved him.<\/p>\n
