{"id":367426,"date":"2025-12-23T20:54:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T20:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/367426\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T20:54:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T20:54:08","slug":"police-end-investigation-into-bob-vylans-idf-chants-at-glastonbury-bob-vylan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/367426\/","title":{"rendered":"Police end investigation into Bob Vylan\u2019s IDF chants at Glastonbury | Bob Vylan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">An investigation into chants by the rap duo Bob Vylan at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/glastonbury\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Glastonbury festival<\/a> will not lead to any further action by prosecutors as there is \u201cinsufficient\u201d evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Bobby Vylan, whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster, led crowds on the festival\u2019s West Holts stage in chants of \u201cdeath, death to the IDF\u201d, referring to the Israel Defense Forces, during their performance in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Shortly afterwards, Avon and Somerset police said a criminal investigation was under way, with a senior detective appointed to lead it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Last month, a man in his mid-30s was interviewed under caution in relation to the comments made on stage. He was not formally arrested. The force did not name the individual who was interviewed and he was informed of the outcome on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a statement, Avon and Somerset police said: \u201cNo further action will be taken on the basis there is insufficient evidence for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It added: \u201cThe comments made on Saturday 28 June drew widespread anger, proving that words have real-world consequences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe believe it is right that this matter was comprehensively investigated, every potential criminal offence was thoroughly considered and we sought all the advice we could to ensure we made an informed decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The force shared the details of its initial inquiries with the Crown Prosecution Service in July and sought legal advice around a number of offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A CPS spokesperson said: \u201cWe recognise the strength of public feeling about comments made during Bob Vylan\u2019s set at Glastonbury festival in June, particularly among the Jewish community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe provided early investigative advice to Avon and Somerset police on what evidence might be needed to meet the legal test for charging but we have not been asked to make a charging decision in this case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cA number of offences were considered which each have evidential requirements to prove but Avon and Somerset police have concluded there is insufficient evidence for there to be any realistic prospect of conviction and will take no further action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In response to the decision, the Community Security Trust, a charity that provides protection to Jewish communities in the UK, said: \u201cIt is incredibly disappointing that the police and CPS have decided not to charge in this case, particularly when police forces in London and Manchester are adopting a stronger approach to tackling hateful rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt sends completely the wrong message at the worst possible time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Metropolitan police said last month they would close their own investigation into Bob Vylan\u2019s gig in May at Alexandra Palace in north London, after advice from the CPS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In September, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2025\/sep\/26\/bbc-partly-upholds-complaints-over-bob-vylan-performance-at-glastonbury-festival\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC partly upheld complaints<\/a> over its decision to stream the punk duo\u2019s performance at Glastonbury.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An investigation into chants by the rap duo Bob Vylan at Glastonbury festival will not lead to any&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":367427,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[28],"tags":[64,63,134,136],"class_list":{"0":"post-367426","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-music","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-entertainment","11":"tag-music"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/367426","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=367426"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/367426\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/367427"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=367426"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=367426"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=367426"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
