Red Bull<\/a> CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has reacted to Helmut Marko\u2019s explosive remarks, where he accused the team\u2019s ex-Formula 1<\/a> boss Christian Horner of \u201cdirty games\u201d.<\/p>\n

Red Bull announced earlier this month that Marko had made the decision to bring the curtain down on an illustrious, two-decade association with the organisation.<\/p>\n

The Austrian has since conducted a striking interview, where he claimed that Horner had attempted to oust him prior to the Briton\u2019s own dismissal earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Marko also voiced that Max Verstappen would\u2019ve won the title had Horner been axed earlier, with a turnaround occurring under Laurent Mekies\u2019 watch.<\/p>\n

However, Mintzlaff, Red Bull GmbH\u2019s Managing Director, speaking to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, has endeavoured to distance the company from Marko\u2019s comments. <\/p>\n

\u201cThose words about Christian are Helmut\u2019s own,\u201d he said. \u201cI can\u2019t say anything negative about Christian. Simply because he meant a lot to Red Bull.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut there always comes a time when things aren\u2019t going well, and then, as a company, you have to make a decision. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you going to give someone more time, or is it time for a new leader? We felt it was time for a change.<\/p>\n

\u201cI disagree with Helmut\u2019s statements. Yes, it\u2019s logical that things change within an organisation. Perhaps Dr Marko has changed over the years as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mintzlaff took the opportunity to praise the partnership of Horner and Marko, who were largely responsible for turning Red Bull into the frontrunning team it is today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s quite normal that not everything is the same as it was five years ago,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cChristian and Helmut have worked together wonderfully for many years, since the start in 2005. So we\u2019re talking about more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cGive me a few examples of other major sports organisations where the leadership team remains the same for so long.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you could look at it very negatively that they\u2019re both gone now. But I would say it\u2019s unique that they\u2019ve been here together for so long and have achieved so much. <\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes you just need a change to shake things up.\u201d<\/p>\n
