Officials are investigating after a kangaroo was shot with an arrow in an incident a wildlife advocate has described as \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201chorrible\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) confirmed that authorities are looking into the attack \u2013 believed to have occurred at Noosa Golf Club last week \u2013 and urged people with information to come forward.<\/p>\n

Wildlife Noosa founder William Watson was dismayed by the act.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s disgusting. It\u2019s just a horrible situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kangaroos at the golf course are semi-tame.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are used to them. They know them and have even named them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the kangaroos are used to people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Watson was among those to help the injured marsupial after he received a phone call from course superintendent Scott McComas, who spotted it on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

They were unable to locate it not long after, but found it on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Wildcare Australia\u2019s Rachel Lyons sedated the roo \u2013 believed to be a young male eastern grey \u2013 and they took it to Sunshine Coast Vets at Pomona.<\/p>\n

The kangaroo, dubbed \u2018Bow\u2019, was promptly treated and returned to the course.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully, it\u2019s okay,\u201d Mr Watson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut knowing there are people out there with bows and arrows, who could be hunting, is a bit distressing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Watson said he reviewed some security footage and spoke to a person who was in the vicinity at the time, and he believed some youths could be to blame.<\/p>\n

He said the incident was reported to the RSPCA and to Crime Stoppers Queensland.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the DETSI said authorities were examining the incident, and called on people with information to come forward.<\/p>\n

Kangaroos are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
