{"id":368704,"date":"2025-12-24T11:03:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T11:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/368704\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T11:03:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T11:03:12","slug":"he-doesnt-need-all-the-bells-and-whistles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/368704\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cHe doesn\u2019t need all the bells and whistles\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/artists\/noel-gallagher\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Noel Gallagher<\/a> may happily reach for a <a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/tag\/stratocaster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stratocaster<\/a> in the studio or on stage with <a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/artists\/noel-gallaghers-high-flying-birds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">High Flying Birds<\/a>, but don\u2019t expect to see one slung over his shoulder at an <a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/artists\/oasis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oasis<\/a> gig. According to fellow Oasis guitarist <a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/artists\/gem-archer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gem Archer<\/a>, it\u2019s simply not how Noel approaches the band live, as the musician \u201cdoesn\u2019t need all the bells and whistles\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/artists\/guitarists\/gem-archer-oasis-reunion-tour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Guitar World<\/a> in a wide-ranging new interview, Archer sheds light on Gallagher\u2019s live guitar philosophy, and shares why certain instruments \u2013 however iconic \u2013 just don\u2019t fit the Oasis blueprint on stage.<\/p>\n<p>Archer, who rejoined Oasis for their mammoth <a href=\"https:\/\/guitar.com\/news\/music-news\/oasis-bonehead-gem-archer-reunion-tour\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Live \u201925 reunion tour<\/a> alongside Noel and Liam Gallagher and original rhythm guitarist Paul \u2018Bonehead\u2019 Arthurs, says that while Strats have their place elsewhere in Noel\u2019s world, Oasis is a different beast entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe plays Strats with High Flying Birds, but in Oasis that\u2019s not his thing,\u201d explains Archer. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t need all the bells and whistles live \u2013 it\u2019s a direct thing, and he\u2019s not gonna go from his wall-of-sound Les Paul to suddenly playing a Strat. It\u2019s not needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, despite Noel\u2019s Gibson-heavy reputation, Archer reveals that at least one defining Oasis track was cut with a Fender, much to his own surprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t Look Back in Anger\u2026 was done with a Strat on the record,\u201d he says. \u201cI think it was a sunburst Strat. One of the first times I met Noel, I was round his house and he went, \u2018Do you wanna come upstairs and see some guitars?\u2019 And he went, \u2018This is what I played on Don\u2019t Look Back in Anger.\u2019 I was like, \u2018What?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Gallagher himself has previously addressed his mixed feelings about Stratocasters.
