New research shows artificial intelligence is now more trusted than social media influencers with one in two Australians (50%) using AI in travel planning and destination research.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/booking.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Booking.com Global AI Sentiment Report<\/a> found a growing reliance on AI for travel planning and research, albeit with a mix of enthusiasm and concern.<\/p>\n<p>AI assistants are now more trusted (15%) when <a href=\"https:\/\/karryon.com.au\/industry-news\/how-many-aussies-use-ai-plan-travel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">planning travel <\/a>than colleagues (11%) or influencers (9%).<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/AI-beach_gettyimages-2195664914.jpg.webp.webp\" alt=\"Woman at beach festival holding smartphone \u2013 AI travel recommendations\" class=\"wp-image-3122912\" title=\"AI vs influencers: Which is more trusted for travel recommendations? 1\"  \/>Travellers rely on AI tools for many in-destination capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>During travel, AI tools are mostly used for in-destination activity suggestions (38%), translation capabilities (36%), restaurant recommendations (35%) and navigating (34%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The majority (78%) of Australians say they are <a href=\"https:\/\/karryon.com.au\/industry-news\/trends\/1-in-2-gen-z-aussies-ai-trips\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">excited about AI<\/a> with 70 per cent familiar with the technology.<\/p>\n<p>However, almost all Australians (92%) have at least one concern about its implications and would not rely entirely on AI recommendations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/AI-packing_credits-booking.comandgettyimages-1368405062.jpg.webp.webp\" alt=\"Packing for travel with smartphone \u2013 AI travel recommendations\" class=\"wp-image-3122913 lazyload\" title=\"AI vs influencers: Which is more trusted for travel recommendations? 2\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/650;\"\/>More than one-third of Aussies do not trust info generated by AI.<\/p>\n<p>Globally, while 77 per cent have at least some trust in AI, only 36 per cent of Aussies feel the same, saying they rarely or never trust information generated by AI.<\/p>\n<p>Just four per cent of Aussies fully trust AI and only seven per cent are comfortable with AI making decisions independently.<\/p>\n<p>Booking.com Regional Manager Oceania Todd Lacey said AI offers new avenues for travel professionals to service clients, helping them spend less time planning and more time exploring, without removing the <a href=\"https:\/\/karryon.com.au\/community\/ai-vs-travel-agent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">human touch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/AI-dining_gettyimages-1133184151.jpg.webp.webp\" alt=\"Group of female friends at outdoor street food market \u2013 AI travel recommendations\" class=\"wp-image-3122914 lazyload\" title=\"AI vs influencers: Which is more trusted for travel recommendations? 3\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/650;\"\/>AI can help with travel planning along with recommendations from trusted sources, such as advisors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI is rapidly reshaping how we plan and experience our lives, from booking a trip to streamlining everyday routines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greatest opportunity lies in positioning AI as a supportive tool that enhances, rather than replaces, human judgement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor businesses, it\u2019s opening powerful new ways to anticipate and respond to customer needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilding trust, being transparent and prioritising safety are core to how we move forward, ensuring every advancement keeps travellers at the centre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full report <a href=\"https:\/\/news.booking.com\/bookingcom-releases-the-global-ai-sentiment-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Is the era of travel influencers over?
