As such, very few doubted that her return to the road scene in 2025 after a six-year hiatus would be a success. But no-one could have foreseen the comprehensive glory that the French superstar enjoyed this year.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"025065cd-1a67-4c6d-9061-f548f8a90496-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">It was meant to be a season of finding her legs in the road peloton once again, and working towards achieving her ultimate ambition of winning the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/from-low-countries-to-dizzy-heights-the-tour-de-france-femmes-is-here-again\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/from-low-countries-to-dizzy-heights-the-tour-de-france-femmes-is-here-again\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift<\/a>. An end date of 2027 was put on that target. Yet the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/tag\/visma-lease-a-bike\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/tag\/visma-lease-a-bike\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Visma-Lease a Bike<\/a> rider, 33, made a barnstorming return, reminding everyone of her unique talent as soon as the spring got underway.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>Podium finishes at Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders were perhaps to be expected \u2013 after all, short, punchy climbs were what she excelled on during her mountain bike years \u2013 but a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-a-sensational-home-victory-in-paris-roubaix\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-a-sensational-home-victory-in-paris-roubaix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">58-second victory at Paris-Roubaix<\/a> Femmes, a flat brute of a race devoid of any significant climbing challenges, was not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:66.67%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/HQLBZAS6rY4DBfrkLR6rVe.jpg\" alt=\"Pauline Ferrand-Pr&amp;eacute;vot\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/HQLBZAS6rY4DBfrkLR6rVe.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/HQLBZAS6rY4DBfrkLR6rVe.jpg\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p id=\"275bda12-0757-4a33-a4d6-65de847d7001\">Even more unexpected was winning the Tour on debut, especially in so crushing a manner. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-the-stage-win-and-the-yellow-jersey-on-the-col-de-la-madeleine-at-the-tour-de-france-femmes\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-the-stage-win-and-the-yellow-jersey-on-the-col-de-la-madeleine-at-the-tour-de-france-femmes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot triumphed on the Col de la Madeleine<\/a> by a huge 1:45 margin, making sure of her victory the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/tour-de-france\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-emotional-tour-de-france-femme-stage-9-win-and-seals-historic-overall-victory\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/tour-de-france\/pauline-ferrand-prevot-takes-emotional-tour-de-france-femme-stage-9-win-and-seals-historic-overall-victory\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">following day at Ch\u00e2tel to win the race overall<\/a> by 3:42.<\/p>\n<p>It was an exhibition, and it\u2019s why Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot is deservedly Cycling Weekly\u2019s international rider of the year. \u201cI can\u2019t say I really like racing, but I like winning,\u201d she recently said. \u201cIf I want to race, it\u2019s because I want to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-647b33fd-de2e-49f1-a0bb-d216cfe83518\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Project PFP<\/p>\n<p id=\"e3559cd0-a362-4ace-8af5-3e3958c77b96\">Project PFP began in the winter of 2023, eight months out from her big career goal of mountain bike gold at her home Olympics in Paris in 2024. It was a goal she accomplished, rather expectedly, and shortly afterwards it was announced she would be joining Visma. The news followed a year of talks, first with the Dutch team\u2019s now-departed sports director Merijn Zeeman, and then with the manager of Visma\u2019s women\u2019s team, Rutger Tijssen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>The latter man, speaking to CW about his role in the negotiations, says: \u201cYou never know if something is going to be a success. When a process starts you need to get to know the athlete and learn how to work together. Straight away I could see that Pauline was really, really good at rising to the occasion. She knows when the heat is on and she knows what to do \u2013 she doesn\u2019t choke on that pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those aforementioned spring performances came about as a result of Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot\u2019s being laser-focused on the demands of Classics racing \u2013 and they also indicated to Tijssen that even better was to come at the Tour later in the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:66.64%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/xLAMVCfgLwLcdEQJsBx55g.jpg\" alt=\"Pauline Ferrand-Pr&amp;eacute;vot\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/xLAMVCfgLwLcdEQJsBx55g.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/xLAMVCfgLwLcdEQJsBx55g.jpg\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p id=\"a4b6cc39-5908-4383-9149-5c2e27eb8f1e\">\u201cPauline could win Roubaix because she trained like a Classics rider: fewer long endurance rides, and more powerful, intense sessions,\u201d he says. \u201cIt was during Strade and Roubaix that I started to believe that she could be successful during the Tour de France, but we didn\u2019t have any information on how she would do across nine days of racing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>Nor did Visma know how Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot would fare on a 20k climb like the Madeleine \u2013 women\u2019s racing has rarely ascended such long HC climbs. But Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot came up with a plan to better her chances. \u201cWe wanted to add some more race days to her calendar, but she wanted to fully commit herself towards the Tour de France,\u201d Tijssen explains. It\u2019s why she abandoned the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/vuelta-a-espana\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-redirect=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/tag\/vuelta-a-espana\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/vuelta-a-espana\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a<\/a> Femenina after four stages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was doing the Vuelta in Classics shape, and we needed to transform her into a GC rider,\u201d he continues. \u201cWe both believe that everything is trainable, and if you put your mind to it, anything is achievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:71.53%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/yhmjd3c9J4YJpLDdwms4Bg.jpg\" alt=\"Pauline Ferrand-Pr&amp;eacute;vot\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/yhmjd3c9J4YJpLDdwms4Bg.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/yhmjd3c9J4YJpLDdwms4Bg.jpg\"\/>\n<\/p>\n<p>(Image credit: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-88d72944-634e-481f-8e28-dd7030d94ce9\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Tour training<\/p>\n<p id=\"d45ae7b2-ac1a-45a8-be0a-58c0be6bb346\">Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot decamped to the Alps, along with her parents, for a summer of training and recons, forgoing extra racing days. \u201cShe said no to competing at both the Tour de Suisse and Volta a Catalunya because she prefers the structured life of training. Travelling and racing interferes with that,\u201d says Tijssen. While her main competitors like <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/21-things-you-didnt-know-about-demi-vollering\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/21-things-you-didnt-know-about-demi-vollering\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Demi Vollering<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/i-lost-the-faith-that-i-could-still-do-it-kasia-niewiadoma-conquers-the-mountain-of-emotions-for-tour-de-france-triumph\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/i-lost-the-faith-that-i-could-still-do-it-kasia-niewiadoma-conquers-the-mountain-of-emotions-for-tour-de-france-triumph\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kasia Niewiadoma<\/a> rode various races to prepare for the Tour, it was Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot\u2019s approach that eventually paid off.<\/p>\n<p>In describing how it did so, the Visma man mixes his baking metaphors deliciously. \u201cThe cherry on the cake was the Madeleine, because everything she did there was trained and planned for: the aerodynamics, her power and cadence on the flat roads, and being patient when Sarah Gigante attacked. Everything was talked about beforehand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot has already declared her intention to defend her Tour glory in 2026, while also setting her sights on Flanders and Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge. On the evidence of 2025, she\u2019ll have little trouble excelling across those very different races.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce she has a goal, that focus and discipline comes naturally to her,\u201d Tijssen says. \u201cWhat she did this year should not really happen, but she showed that the impossible is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot is Cycling Weekly&#8217;s international rider of 2025.
