Have you ever wondered what a rugby league team would look like if it was only made up of Christmas-related things? No, you probably haven\u2019t. So we thought we would do it for you!<\/p>\n
We have created a full 13 of famous festive things, be it film characters, foods or just general yuletide items.<\/p>\n
Everyone at Serious About Rugby League would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and with that in mind, take a look at what we\u2019ve come up with \u2013 how long before the season starts?\u2026<\/p>\n
A rugby league squad, but make it Christmas!<\/p>\n
Full-back \u2013 Roast Potatoes<\/p>\n
Full-backs need to be solid, and be able to guide their team around the pitch when they need it most. A roast potato does that on a Christmas dinner. It\u2019s one of the stars of the team and them playing well often significantly contributes to the performance of the meal.<\/p>\n
Wingers \u2013 Rudolph and Comet<\/p>\n
Pace is important on the wings, and who better than to have two of the fastest animals in Christmas history? Matty Ashton may be rapid, but he is nothing compared to these two flyers (no pun intended).<\/p>\n
Centres \u2013 A Christmas Cracker and Jack Skellington<\/p>\n
An explosive centre is often a necessity in a rugby league back line, with their power and strength being vital in a team\u2019s attack. The Christmas Cracker does just that, and provides the whole family with plenty of laughs and entertainment.<\/p>\n
On the opposite side, \u2018The Nightmare Before Christmas\u2019 star is rangy, and looks like he could be a handful for defenders. Getting those offloads out to Rudolph will be crucial in this side\u2019s attack.<\/p>\n
Halves: Kevin McCallister and The\u00a0Grinch<\/p>\n
Two of the most-loved Christmas Characters, these two may be some of the most creative minds in the game. With McAllister\u2019s exceptional eye for attack and The Grinch\u2019s deception, these two could go down as arguably the best halves partners in festive history!<\/p>\n
Props \u2013 Santa (c) and Buzz McAllister:<\/p>\n
The big man is known for his large size and physical presence, and he will be hoping to use his incredible experience to try and get his side on the front foot. Who else could the captaincy have gone to, but the man most renowned with this time of year, and someone who, quite literally, delivers every single year without fail.<\/p>\n
The other prop will have a bit more aggression, and whilst at times he crossed the line of legality, Buzz will have a similar style of play to the likes of Barrie McDermott and Stuart Fielden did for years in Super League, as he tries to make his presence felt however way he can.<\/p>\n
Hooker \u2013 Gravy<\/p>\n
The glue that holds this side together, the most important part of a Christmas dinner is the gravy. Whether you like it thick or thin, if the gravy is done right, it makes the team shine, and that is why it is perfect for the number nine spot.<\/p>\n
Second Row \u2013 Buddy the Elf and Stuffing<\/p>\n
You can\u2019t have a Christmas team without Buddy the Elf, it just wouldn\u2019t be right. He slots in at the back row, and whilst he may get distracted by having Santa alongside him, his accuracy in the snowball fight alone was enough to see him enter the 13.<\/p>\n
Stuffing, meanwhile, is an often underrated part of the Christmas meal, and slots in on the opposite side of the field. Perhaps not the flashiest of characters, but one that gets the job done on a consistent basis<\/p>\n
Loose Forward \u2013 John McClane<\/p>\n
Yes. Die Hard is a Christmas film, argue with yourselves. McClane is another who\u2019s mind would be brilliant for rugby league, and has shown on multiple occasions how he can outwit even the best of villains.<\/p>\n
With the perfect blend of speed, aggression and creativity, he rounds off this very talented squad, and would no doubt help his team to plenty of Grand Finals.<\/p>\n
