viewBox=&quot;0 0 800 450&quot;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\"  alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\"\/><\/p>\n<p>PropTrack economist Anne Flaherty said the slowing decline in home values showed the price correction in Geelong is close to over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">The return of investors is a leading indicator the market is factoring in rising prices in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Geelong has a lot to offer on that front, Ms Flaherty said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cJust purely from an economic, population growth standpoint and where the median price of homes are sitting, I think there\u2019s a lot of opportunity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cWe\u2019re actually seeing renewed interest in the Melbourne market and regional Victoria from interstate investors, who are looking at what the median price of a home in greater Melbourne is now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cIt\u2019s the third-cheapest capital city. Of course the Geelong median price is below where Melbourne is sitting, but Geelong in a unique regional market in the way it acts as an outer area of Melbourne because it\u2019s so well connected in to the city.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"styles__StyledImage-sc-17n6uwl-1 hlcJVa wp-post-1045124 wp-image-1045121\"  src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=&quot;http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg&quot; viewBox=&quot;0 0 800 450&quot;%3E%3C\/svg%3E\"  alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Geelong unit prices have climbed in July, which PropTrack economist Anne Flaherty is a sign people are chasing affordability. This two-bedroom Allitt Ave, Belmont unit sold for $585,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">\u201cAnd it offers that lifestyle appeal to people, so it really appeals to people from a broad range of demographics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Ms Flaherty said Geelong offers more bang for buck for interstate investors who have reaped big equity gains on the back of fast-rising prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Queensland, WA and SA prices are up over 80 per cent over five years, Ms Flaherty said, in contrast to a 15 per cent gain in greater Melbourne. Geelong has seen 27 per cent gain over five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text__Typography-sc-1103tao-0 bjGYxJ StyledP-sc-cebixd-0 bzEerj\">Ms Flaherty said an August interest rate cut was on the cards following new inflation figures, with at least another cut tipped before the end of the year, as homebuyers also seeing the potential for price growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Geelong\u2019s median home price slipped about $3000 in July.
