Kim said no at first, but eventually agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess you could say I was a bit good,\u201d Caoimhe says. \u201cAs I kept making teams and going further, I really tried to pursue it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Caoimhe Bray, 16, balances teenage life with her cricket career.\" aspectratios=\"[object Object]\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/5b0ffa7e47867d9f81deb416c4c1e3d370752d34.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d2942506-1 wgbit\"\/>Caoimhe Bray, 16, balances teenage life with her cricket career.Janie Barrett<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA bit good\u201d is underselling it. The 16-year-old who just finished year 10 was the youngest person to play in a Women\u2019s Big Bash League game \u2013 she was 15 years and 34 days. She took a hat trick in a match in November, and \u2013 in a feat that has earned her comparisons to Australian cricketer and former soccer player Ellyse Perry \u2013 has also played for the Junior Matildas.<\/p>\n<p>With so much on her plate, the rising star has learnt to weigh up her priorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not someone who dedicates myself to school very much,\u201d she says, \u201cI do the essential stuff, I guess you could say. She\u2019s not sure if she will finish her HSC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always said I wanted to be a professional athlete. He is teaching his daughter how to play and sharing his love of the game.\" aspectratios=\"[object Object]\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/ed9e5db5fb37c2b57e0e7f53500a9c6a714cf250.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d2942506-1 ffXaNQ\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty boring,\u201d she says, \u201cI sort of chill at home, I do scroll a little bit, hang out with my mates every now and then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But constantly travelling for work isn\u2019t always conducive to having a normal high school life.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in Denman, in the Upper Hunter Valley, Caoimhe had a taste of life on the road pretty early.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Caoimhe would spend the night in Newcastle ahead of morning soccer training, then be driven two hours to school in Aberdeen. She\u2019d eat dinner at home in Denman before the drive back to Newcastle to sleep and do it all again.<\/p>\n<p>The load was lightened two years ago when the family moved to Newcastle. Caoimhe jokes that she will have no problem clocking up the hours required for her P-plates.<\/p>\n<p>The future is bright for Caoimhe, but she knows professional sport is not a guaranteed path or a lifelong career.
