New details have emerged about an incident that prompted police, including the Tactical Response Group, to descend on the suburb of Whitlam on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n
A 39-year-old man has been remanded in custody following a brief Boxing Day court appearance, after police charged him with a series of offences, including assaulting a pregnant woman and firing at police four times.<\/p>\n
The man pleaded with Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker to be freed on bail, saying, “Please, Your Honour,” but she refused.<\/p>\n
Police said they had received several calls to the suburb in the early evening to report the man assaulting a pregnant woman outside the house.<\/p>\n
Two-hour stand-off ends in arrest<\/p>\n
It is alleged he was also carrying a gun at the time, which discharged when he fell over.<\/p>\n
During the incident, the police closed roads and told residents to stay inside.<\/p>\n
The man is accused of firing a gun 12 times in various locations inside the house.<\/p>\n
Police allege that four times he aimed at them and fired while making violent threats to them and two children inside the house.<\/p>\n
After about two hours, the man scaled a fence behind the house, fell, and was subsequently arrested.<\/p>\n
Police said the children were taken to hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
A search of the home allegedly uncovered a black air rifle with a scope.<\/p>\n
