With the advancements seen in VFX over the decades, we are at a perfect time for Sci-Fi to truly flourish. Many Sci-Fi movies are coming to theaters<\/a> over the next few years.<\/p>\n

Those include Dune: Part Three, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Project Hail Mary, and many more. The genre is also being represented well on the small screen, with many exciting Sci-Fi series<\/a> emerging over the past few years, such as Severance, Foundation, 3 Body Problem, and more. Now, a major Sci-Fi movie franchise<\/a> returns in 2026, and it keeps getting better.<\/p>\n

The Hunger Games Is One Of The Best Sci-Fi Franchises Of The 2010s<\/p>\n

The 2010s were a golden era for Sci-Fi movies. Films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ex Machina, and Arrival helped define the genre for modern audiences. New cinematic universes also came to light, with the dystopian genre particularly enticing to viewers. Several book adaptations graced the silver screen, with a few successful Sci-Fi franchises emerging out of the boom.<\/p>\n

The Maze Runner, Divergent, and The Hunger Games<\/a> were all popular dystopian Sci-Fi franchises that found huge success in the 2010s. While all three of them have their positive aspects, it is hard to argue that the latter was not the biggest release among them. The Maze Runner trilogy amassed $924.7 million, far less than The Hunger Games’ first three movies’ $2.3 billion.<\/p>\n

As for Divergent, interest in the franchise waned over the years, with the fourth and final movie scrapped. Unlike The Maze Runner, four main movies were released in The Hunger Games saga. The franchise has also expanded over the years with prequels, and its world is only getting better 13 years after the first film.<\/p>\n

The Hunger Games trilogy is thrilling, presenting the dystopian world of Panem and a tournament where 24 tributes fight to the death in a dangerous arena. Right from the start, the franchise did a fantastic job of making its world immersive. As the movies went by, the franchise banked on strong performances and well-developed characters to prevent the basic premise from feeling repetitive.<\/p>\n

In the years since its release, The Hunger Games’ themes of authoritarianism, media manipulation, and so on have only become more timely, putting the franchise in a whole new perspective. Instead of churning out several sequels due to the Sci-Fi series’ success, the franchise chose to go back to its past, which was the correct decision.<\/p>\n
