BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) \u2014 Central District Health is reporting the first influenza-related death in the Boise area this season. <\/p>\n
CDH says that Idaho reported 87 influenza-related deaths last flu season. The woman who died was reportedly in her 90s, according to CDH. <\/p>\n
\u201cInfluenza can be unpredictable and dangerous, especially for older adults and those with underlying health conditions,\u201d said Dr. Jaime Butler-Dawson, Epidemiologist at CDH. \u201cWhen you get vaccinated, stay home when sick, and practice good hygiene, you\u2019re not just protecting yourself, you\u2019re helping keep your family and our entire community healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those at higher risk include pregnant women, adults over 50, and those with chronic illnesses like asthma, diabetes, or heart and lung disease. Idaho is currently experiencing an elevated level of flu activity for this season, including increased hospital visits. While most people recover within a few days, the flu can lead to serious complications and even death.
