\"Sara Sara Ali Khan<\/a> recently reflected on what strength means to her, crediting her upbringing for shaping her worldview. Speaking on aunt Soha Ali Khan<\/a>\u2019s podcast, the actress said, \u201cFor me, a strong woman is someone who doesn\u2019t fear having a voice.\u201d Emphasising inner empowerment, she added, \u201cToday, society has evolved and women have become more free, but I think it starts from within. Your ability to emancipate yourself, to stand for what you believe in, and to stand up for yourself\u2014that\u2019s strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

Growing up with a voice<\/p>\n

Acknowledging her own privilege, Sara admitted she has always been encouraged to speak her mind. \u201cI\u2019ve always had a voice. I\u2019ve never had to shut myself down. Even while growing up at home, questions and opinions were always welcome,\u201d she said, while recognising that this freedom is not universal. \u201cNot everyone has that, and kudos to those who live in a world that may not always support them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Privilege in everyday moments<\/p>\n

The actress also spoke about subtle gender privileges that often go unnoticed. \u201cI think one of the biggest privileges is that you have a brother, and I have a brother, and we didn\u2019t grow up in a household where they got the better chicken. That\u2019s probably where our privilege begins,\u201d she remarked, underlining how equality starts at home.<\/p>\n

Raised by a single mother<\/p>\n

Sara revealed that being raised by her mother, Amrita Singh<\/a>, after her parents separated in 2004, deeply influenced her understanding of gender roles. \u201cYou have to derive your own strength in a world where you\u2019re aware that inequality exists,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cI grew up with a single mother, so the way I look at women is completely different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breaking stereotypes at home<\/p>\n

Challenging traditional notions of men as providers and women as nurturers, Sara said her childhood reality was very different. \u201cMy mom was doing everything. That bifurcation doesn\u2019t exist in my memory at all,\u201d she shared, before adding with a laugh, \u201cMy mom doesn\u2019t do any job that\u2019s \u2018ideally\u2019 associated with women\u2014she\u2019s a bad cook.\u201d <\/p>\n

Soha Ali Khan\u2019s perspective<\/p>\n

Soha Ali Khan echoed similar experiences from their family, saying, \u201cOur father was a professional athlete. When we were born, he used to stay home while our mother went to work.\u201d Wrapping up the conversation, Sara spoke about embracing all facets of her personality. \u201cI have multiple interests. I like travelling everywhere\u2014from Ujjain to the Maldives,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cI celebrate all aspects of my life. I think modernity is really a way of approaching things.
