The team on Burbages Lane recently donating a large supply of equipmentPlayers from Ukraine\u2019s Sokil Lviv braving the snow in the donated Coventry Welsh kit <\/p>\n

A Coventry rugby club has shown sport knows no borders after helping support players more than 1,300 miles away. Coventry<\/a> Welsh RFC, based on Burbages Lane, recently donating a large supply of surplus kit to a team in western Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The club sent the playing kit to Lviv Rugby<\/a> Club after a long-standing committee member, Iwan Rewko, who also serves as Honorary President of Ukrainian Rugby, arranged an international link between the two sides.<\/p>\n

Photos sent back from Ukraine show players from Sokil Lviv training in heavy snow while proudly wearing the Coventry Welsh kit. Club secretary Sarah-Jane Webb says the link is something which shows all Coventry Welsh stands for.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommunity involvement is at the heart of everything we do,\u201d she said. \u201cThis donation means kit that would otherwise go unused is now supporting the development of rugby in a community where the sport can have a powerful and uplifting impact during challenging times.”<\/p>\n

The club, which is home to men\u2019s, women\u2019s and youth rugby as well as local darts teams, is always on the lookout for new members.<\/p>\n

Sarah-Jane said: “We\u2019re always eager to welcome new people down to the club, whether they want to join a team, get involved socially, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. Supporting others – whether locally or internationally – is a huge part of who we are.<\/p>\n

“Throughout the week, the club is a hub of activity: darts teams compete on Mondays, the men\u2019s rugby squad trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and women\u2019s and U16s lads rugby training takes place every Wednesday.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But while their own community is important, using sport and the power of rugby for a greater good internationally can also be rewarding.<\/p>\n
