Australia\u2019s reserve allrounder Beau Webster has been released from the squad to play in the Big Bash League<\/a> for Hobart.<\/p>\n

Josh Inglis, who was dropped for the rapid-fire Boxing Day Test, will also return to the BBL and play for Perth, ahead of the fifth and final Ashes<\/a> Test.<\/p>\n

After their BBL matches, both players will re-join the Australia squad in Sydney to prepare for the New Year\u2019s Test at the SCG, starting on January 4.<\/p>\n

After playing seven Tests this year, Webster was left out of the Australia XI for the opening match of the Ashes in Perth and has been unable to get back into the team.<\/p>\n

But Webster appears a genuine chance to reclaim his spot due to Cameron Green\u2019s repeated failures with bat during this series.<\/p>\n

Green\u2019s position is under major threat after averaging just 18.66 with the bat in the first four Tests of the Ashes.<\/p>\n

After running himself out on day one in Melbourne, Green again threw his wicket away in the second innings.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old tried to guide a Stokes ball away into the off-side, but was caught at second slip.<\/p>\n

Inglis is less likely to earn a recall after having a top score of 32 in his three innings during the Brisbane and Adelaide Tests.<\/p>\n

Webster will be available to play for the Hurricanes in their BBL match against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday.<\/p>\n

Inglis is expected to line-up for the Perth Scorchers in their clash with the Sydney Thunder at ENGIE Stadium on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja faces a call on his playing future ahead of what Australian great Brett Lee believes could be a \u201cspecial\u201d farewell for the veteran in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Khawaja has endured a rollercoaster Ashes series, averaging 30.6 from five innings with one half-century.<\/p>\n

The former Test opener was moved to No.4 in Perth and missed the Brisbane Test with a back injury.<\/p>\n

He returned with 82 and 40 in Adelaide but was out for 29 and a second-ball duck in the Boxing Day Test.<\/p>\n

At 39, Khawaja is nearing the end of his Test career, but is yet to make an announcement on his immediate playing future.<\/p>\n

Former fast bowler Lee said the Sydney Test could be a fitting stage for his fellow NSW product to retire.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019ll be up to him, but it\u2019d be a special way for him to go out, wouldn\u2019t it?\u201d Lee said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Lee conceded Khawaja\u2019s age counts against him playing on beyond this series but paid tribute to the left-hander.<\/p>\n

Khawaja has made more than 8000 international runs, including 6206 from 87 Tests at an average of 43.39.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust a couple of weeks ago he was, and has been, one of Australia\u2019s greatest batsmen,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s in the team because of what he\u2019s achieved, and he wasn\u2019t left out (in Brisbane) due to form. He was left out because of his injury – his back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on in his life, in terms of his professional cricket life, but all I can say is that he\u2019s been instrumental for Australia.<\/p>\n
