Beau Webster<\/a> and Josh Inglis<\/a> have been released from the Australian squad to play Big Bash<\/a> for their respective teams following the Boxing Day Test.<\/p>\n

Webster will return to the Hobart Hurricanes<\/a> to face the Melbourne Renegades<\/a> on Monday, while Inglis is available for the Perth Scorchers<\/a> for their clash with the Sydney Thunder<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

This move won’t rule either player out of a return for the Sydney Test, however. <\/p>\n

Cricket Australia<\/a> has stated that both players will return to the squad on New Year’s Eve to prepare for the fifth Ashes clash.<\/p>\n

Australia has already secured the series and retained the urn, winning the first three Tests before losing in Melbourne to England in just two days.<\/p>\n

Inglis played in Brisbane and Adelaide, batting in the middle order after replacing the injured Usman Khawaja.<\/p>\n

Scores of 23, 32 and 10 weren’t enough for Inglis to hold his spot in the side come Boxing Day, with both Khawaja and the previously ill Steve Smith<\/a> both ready to go. <\/p>\n

Webster meanwhile performed admirably in 2025 as the all-rounder for the Test side, averaging 35 with the bat across seven matches and taking eight wickets.<\/p>\n

However, he is yet to feature in the series with Cameron Green<\/a> fit to return after dealing with injuries and playing all four Tests.<\/p>\n

Green has not made the most of his opportunities in this Ashes series with the bat, averaging just 18.6 across his seven innings.<\/p>\n

The towering West Australian also bowled just five overs in the fourth Test and has generally been used sparingly across the series. <\/p>\n

He was demoted down the batting order to seven for Melbourne, with calls now growing that Webster should be in the mix for his spot in Sydney.<\/p>\n

The hosts will likely stick with Green, who was the only player in the Test squad under the age of 30 until Jhye Richardson was called in for Boxing Day.<\/p>\n
