The new owners of the iconic house from\u00a0Home Alone<\/a>\u00a0have vowed to restore its original look after a renovation sparked backlash from fans.<\/p>\n

The half-acre property in Winnetka, Illinois was fully renovated and expanded in 2018\u00a0with a glossy, minimalist design replacing the classic,\u00a0cosy\u00a0home aesthetic that became widely beloved in the 1990 original film and its 1992 sequel\u00a0Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.<\/p>\n

Many fans of the films were vocal in their objection to the redesign, and now the new landowners have revealed that they are in the middle of a renovation project that intends to restore the\u00a0home to something close to its original look.<\/p>\n

The property was\u00a0purchased\u00a0for $5.25million (\u00a33.88million) earlier this year<\/a>, and in an interview with\u00a0NBC5 Chicago, project manager Scott Price\u00a0has said: \u201cOur vision is to bring back the warmth and just the love from the movie. There were so many great colours, and it just made you feel like family and like home, and we want to bring that magic back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The house was built in 1921 and has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, while the property also includes an indoor basketball court, a movie theatre, a poker\u00a0room\u00a0and Lego statue of the\u00a0franchise\u2019s\u00a0star\u00a0Macaulay Culkin<\/a>\u00a0in his iconic\u00a0scream pose.<\/p>\n

The house previously went for US$1.58million or GBP1.24million in 2012.\u00a0In 2021, the house\u2019s previous owners put the house up for rent on Airbnb for just one day<\/a>\u00a0in conjunction with the Disney+ reboot,\u00a0Home Sweet Home Alone.<\/p>\n

For just one night, the house was booby-trapped like in the film, and was hosted by Buzz McCallister, the elder brother of Macaulay Culkin\u2019s Kevin from the 1990 film. The Airbnb listing also included \u201cplenty of Chicago\u2019s finest pizza\u201d and \u201ca candlelit dinner of microwavable Kraft Macaroni & Cheese\u201d, as well as a meet and greet with a tarantula and a LEGO Ideas Home Alone\u00a0set to take home.<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0director Chris Columbus revealed how Kevin McAllister\u2019s parents were able to afford to live in such a property<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 his mother, played by Catherine O\u2019Hara was \u201ca very successful fashion designer\u201d,\u00a0while his father, played by John Heard, might have worked in advertising.<\/p>\n
