A\ufeff leading US-based animal rights organisation has called out Kim Kardashian<\/a> for gifting each of her four children their own puppy for Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kim revealed in an Instagram story that she gifted her kids, North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, seven, and Psalm, six, a Pomeranian puppy<\/a> each for Christmas. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Ingrid Newkirk, founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), later spoke about the decision in a strongly worded statement to People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Puppies are not plushies and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” Newkirk told the publication.<\/p>\n

\ufeffNewkirk proceeded to recommend that Kim “call PETA or a local shelter the next time” they want to add a pet to their family.<\/p>\n

She also called out \ufeffKim’s sister Khlo\u00e9 Kardashian who also gifted a dog to her family this Christmas.<\/p>\n

“[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon, or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis,” Newkirk added.<\/p>\n

\ufeffKim revealed the controversial gifts in an Instagram story, sharing a photo of the four young puppies \u2013 two with dark brown fur and two with pale brown hair \u2013 sitting on some fluffy pillows.<\/p>\n

“Each kid got a puppy,” she captioned the post.<\/p>\n

The four puppies join Kim’s two other Pomeranians \u2013 Sushi and Sak\u00e9, whom she adopted in 2017.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In a thread on Reddit<\/a>, some social media users criticised the reality TV star and business owner’s decision.<\/p>\n

“Each got a puppy they are not going to take care of,” one Reddit user wrote.<\/p>\n

\ufeff”Dogs are not toys. They require a ton of work, patience and knowledge,” wrote another.<\/p>\n

\ufeffKhlo\u00e9 also shared photos to her Instagram of a black Labrador retriever puppy that her family got as a Christmas present.<\/p>\n

The sisters have not yet re\ufeffsponded to the criticism.<\/p>\n
