{"id":379087,"date":"2025-12-29T22:17:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T22:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/379087\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T22:17:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T22:17:08","slug":"mavericks-seeking-disabled-player-exceptions-for-dereck-lively-ii-dante-exum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/379087\/","title":{"rendered":"Mavericks Seeking Disabled Player Exceptions For Dereck Lively II, Dante Exum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mavericks have applied to the NBA for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2024\/08\/hoops-rumors-glossary-disabled-player-exception-3.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">disabled player exceptions<\/a> for both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/livelde01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-10_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dereck Lively II<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/exumda01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dante Exum<\/a>, who have suffered season-ending injuries, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheSteinLine\/status\/2005631388373147797\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-455682 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Dereck-Lively-II-vert-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\"  \/>The DPEs would provide half of each player\u2019s salary, so they would be modest in both cases, although they could offer some flexibility later in the season. The figures would amount to $2,626,680 for Lively (who\u2019s making $5,253,360 on his rookie scale deal) and $1,148,137 for Exum (who has a veteran\u2019s minimum contract worth $2,296,274).<\/p>\n<p>Even if the exceptions are granted, Dallas wouldn\u2019t be able to surpass its second-apron hard cap. The team is currently about $1.29MM below that cap.<\/p>\n<p>Lively, 21, has been experiencing right foot issues since <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/01\/mavs-lively-has-fracture-in-foot-expected-to-miss-2-3-months.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">suffering a fracture<\/a> in his foot\/ankle area last January. It kept him out of action for two months and required him to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/07\/mavs-dereck-lively-undergoes-right-foot-procedure.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">undergo surgery in July<\/a> in an effort to fix the issue. He continued to be bothered by health problems, missing a nine-game stretch in October and November due to a right knee sprain, then battling nagging discomfort in his right foot.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made to have him undergo <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/12\/mavs-dereck-lively-to-undergo-season-ending-foot-surgery.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">season-ending foot surgery<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Lively, who played a huge role in Dallas\u2019 run to the NBA Finals as a rookie, wound up playing just seven games in his third NBA season, averaging 4.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 16.4 minutes per night.<\/p>\n<p>Exum, 30, who re-signed with the team in August after battling injuries last season, wasn\u2019t able to play at all due to complications related to an offseason procedure on his right knee. He underwent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/12\/mavs-dante-exum-to-undergo-season-ending-knee-surgery.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">follow-up surgery<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas would have until March 10 to use either DPE to acquire a player for the rest of the season.
