There\u2019s concerns for Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic after the MVP favourite suffered a non-contact knee injury. <\/p>\n

Jokic just before half-time of Denver\u2019s loss in Miami on Tuesday (AEDT) went down clutching his left knee after it appeared to hyperextend when teammate Spencer Jones accidentally stood on his foot.<\/p>\n

The three-time MVP grimaced in pain on the court for some time, before getting up and limping to the locker room unassisted in extremely worrying scenes for the Nuggets.<\/p>\n

Jokic missed the remainder of the game, with Denver unable to provide an immediate update on the severity of the injury.<\/p>\n

ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania reports Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday (US time).<\/p>\n

The depleted Nuggets have already been smashed by injuries this season, with three of their starters, Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun and Cam Johnson, currently sidelined.<\/p>\n

Yet Denver has managed to stay alive, in large, thanks to Jokic, to currently sit third in the West at 22-10 as the second-favourite for the NBA title behind Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n

But a serious setback to Jokic, 30, would be a devastating blow to the Nuggets\u2019 championship hopes and season at large. <\/p>\n

Denver coach David Adelman said the team would learn more over the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll i know is it\u2019s just a left knee injury, he has to go through the whole process of what it is,\u201d Adelman said post-match.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously he immediately knew something was wrong. This is part of the NBA, anybody that gets hurt in this game, it\u2019s kind of gutwrenching, especially someone as special as he is.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll find out more tomorrow and move on as a team. Obviously right now I\u2019m more concerned about him as a person and the disappointment of going through something like that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate, hoping for the best, just like we did with Cam (Johnson) and the other starters we\u2019ve lost.\u201d<\/p>\n

The timing couldn\u2019t be worse, with Denver now set to be down four starters two games into a seven-game road trip including its seventh game in 10 days. <\/p>\n
