After 16 years of being a beloved fixture on Margaret River\u2019s main street, John Miller Design has bid farewell to its iconic store.<\/p>\n

The fine jewellery business known for its silver and gold creations will now focus on expanding its presence at its Yallingup store and launching an online shopping platform.<\/p>\n

Owner and designer John Miller was enthusiastic about the future, but said it was bittersweet to move off the main street.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the wonderful people of Margaret River for all their support and patronage in the last what\u2019s nearly 16 years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Miller\u2019s journey into the world of jewellery began by chance more than 50 years ago when he took a job polishing silver at a shop in Cottesloe.<\/p>\n

With a childhood spent in the Kimberley and an artistic family background, he later opened Broome\u2019s first jewellery shop, Dampier\u2019s Chest, in 1979.<\/p>\n

Since then, his career has flourished, leading to the establishment of two stores \u2014 one in Margaret River and Yallingup \u2014 employing a team of 10.<\/p>\n

Miller\u2019s team produces a range of jewellery, including chains, bracelets, rings and earrings, with designs often inspired by the landscapes of the South West and Kimberley regions.<\/p>\n

Notably, Miller personally crafts his own steel punches to imprint his intricate designs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like doing what nobody else does,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to chase the market or the industry. I try to do different things and new things and use other techniques that people don\u2019t use.\u201d<\/p>\n

John Miller Design manager Heather Cunningham said the business was evolving, but the brand was expected to stay true to its values.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going online and we have refurbished our Yallingup space,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing click to cart so that we can reach our international and interstate customers a little bit better.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe online store is my baby, so I\u2019m pretty excited about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sad that we\u2019re leaving Margaret River, but it\u2019s also good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The store\u2019s previous master jeweller, Marcus Cameron, is still available in Margaret River for those seeking remakes, remodels and repairs.<\/p>\n
