{"id":380433,"date":"2025-12-30T12:48:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T12:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/380433\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T12:48:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T12:48:07","slug":"oxford-university-hospitals-new-equipment-vital-for-patient-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/380433\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxford University Hospitals new equipment &#8216;vital&#8217; for patient care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr James explained that anal cancer was &#8220;extremely rare&#8221; but cases were increasing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Symptoms include bleeding from the anus, persistent itching, pain or discomfort, and lumps or swelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Currently there is no screening process, only a few guidelines,&#8221; Mr James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I tend to see patients who have been referred because they have shown symptoms, have had haemorrhoid surgery or are an at-risk patient.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added: &#8220;Patients can access appointments closer to home in a more comfortable and time-effective outpatient setting, which will ultimately improve the healthcare experience and outcomes for our patients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prof Sir Neil Mortensen, chair of Occtopus, said the charity was proud to fund the equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said it meant patients across the Oxford would receive &#8220;world class care closer to home&#8221;, placing the city as &#8220;a leader in colorectal healthcare&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We are proud to support OUH in expanding this important service and to assist in the positive impact it has on local patients,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mr James explained that anal cancer was &#8220;extremely rare&#8221; but cases were increasing.
