Ashton Turner<\/a> had hopes of a Big Bash<\/a> century taken away from him in a serious case of bad luck after he was stranded on 99 for the Perth Scorchers<\/a> against the Sydney Thunder.<\/p>\n

Turner had raced to 86 off 38 deliveries by the time the final over started and hit the first Daniel Sams delivery for six.<\/p>\n

Sams’ next ball copped the same treatment.<\/p>\n

“They’ve got to get him off strike somehow,” Isa Guha said on Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

The Thunder did just that with the right-hander hitting a single to deep mid-on. Ashton Agar hit the next ball to the boundary and shook his head in disappointment.<\/p>\n

Agar hit the next one to Matthew Gilkes on the boundary who took the catch and sealed Turner’s fate.<\/p>\n

The final delivery was an impressive ending for the Thunder with Joel Paris hitting it in the same direction before Gilkes caught it and had to throw the ball in-field as he fell over the boundary rope. Sam Konstas took the catch to keep the Scorchers at 8-202 from 20 overs.<\/p>\n

Turner appeared unfazed as he walked off the field, raising a hand to the crowd and his teammates who clapped him off. <\/p>\n

“A wonderful knock,” Brad Haddin said on Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

Turner is now the fourth player in Big Bash history to finish on 99. The score is his highest in the BBL having never hit a ton.<\/p>\n

Earlier for the Scorchers, Josh Inglis made his return from the Ashes setup but could only finish with 13. Mitch Marsh failed at the top, scoring 6 while Cooper Connolly hit 28. <\/p>\n

At the start of the Thunder’s chase, David Warner promoted himself to opener with Sam Konstas moved down to No.3.<\/p>\n

Warner finished with 25 while Gilkes scored 33 alongside him. Konstas made 21 but the rest of the Thunder’s batters were seriously disappointing.<\/p>\n

Perth ended up winning by 71 runs after the Thunder were bowled out for 131.
