Cole Caufield<\/a> had a goal and assist for Montreal (21-12-6) which extended its point streak to six games (4-0-2). Sam Montembeault<\/a> made 28 saves for the Canadiens, who scored twice in the final 4:27 of regulation to force overtime. Hutson and Noah Dobson<\/a> each had two assists.<\/p>\n

Marchand and Sam Reinhart<\/a> scored for the Panthers (21-15-3), who had won nine of their past 12 games. Tarasov made 26 saves.<\/p>\n

The Panthers will play the New York Rangers in the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic at Miami\u2019s loanDepot park on Friday (8 p.m. ET; HBO MAX, truTV, TNT, SNW, SNO, SNE, TVAS).<\/p>\n

Florida coach Paul Maurice said he was going to stew on his team losing a late two-goal lead before he can get into the Winter Classic spirit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am going to grumble for a little while and will try to be in a good mood in two days,\u201d Maurice said, before extolling the virtues of the outdoor game which will be held about 45 minutes south of the Panthers\u2019 suburban arena. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be in a good mood tomorrow. We will have to let this one sit for a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

After no goals were scored by either team in the first two periods, Marchand gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 10:18 of the third.<\/p>\n
