{"id":382096,"date":"2025-12-31T07:18:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T07:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/382096\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T07:18:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T07:18:08","slug":"lecavi-chases-cricket-dream-fbc-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/382096\/","title":{"rendered":"Lecavi chases cricket dream \u2013 FBC News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/levaci-1280x720.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>From playing cricket in their village ground in Kabara Island in the Lau Group to representing Fiji in one of the biggest tournaments in the region, 16-year-old Akosita Levaci is slowly stamping her mark in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Adi Cakobau student was one of the youngest players of the Fiji Women\u2019s Under-19 squad that competed at regional tournament in New Caledonia earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Article continues after advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With cricket being one of the main sports played by children on Kabara Island, Levaci says her love for the game came naturally.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started playing cricket when I was in primary school, and since most of my cousins and relatives back in the village always play as well, I grew to love the sport. Back in the village we usually have competitions during special occasions like Fiji Day. My parents were very happy when I told them that I had made the team, and they just reminded me to work hard and be humble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She adds that the best thing about representing Fiji is getting to travel with teammates who have become like family.<\/p>\n<p>She is currently working to make the final squad for the national women\u2019s under-19 to the World Cup Qualifiers in Papua New Guinea in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"viti-plus-link-article\" href=\"https:\/\/www.viti.plus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stream the best of Fiji on VITI+.
