{"id":382741,"date":"2025-12-31T14:30:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T14:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/382741\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T14:30:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T14:30:09","slug":"time-to-reset-your-eating-habits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/382741\/","title":{"rendered":"Time to reset your eating habits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new year offers new beginnings and an opportunity to reset your eating habits after the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Mayo Clinic dietitian Andrea Delgado says it\u2019s best to eliminate what you don\u2019t need, including party food leftovers.<\/p>\n<p>If your refrigerator is holding onto less-than-healthy holiday leftovers into the new year, it is okay to let them go.<\/p>\n<p>Dispose of leftovers or eat them gradually and in smaller portions, Delgado advises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to slowly regress back to your old healthier habits or establish new ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart introducing vegetables and fruits with most meals,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>And pay attention to portion sizes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t necessarily have to go on a diet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t necessarily have to eliminate treats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, look at the portion sizes and how often you have those foods,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Opt for lean protein, whole grains and fresh produce in your diet, still allowing for an occasional treat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith nutrition, there is no all-or-nothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can still enjoy those nice treats, those good desserts, those savoury beverages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all in how much and how often we are having them,\u201d Delgado says.<\/p>\n<p>Simplify your portion control by dividing your plate into three sections following the \u201cQuarter, Quarter, Half\u201d guideline:<\/p>\n<p>&gt; One-half: fruit and non-starchy vegetables<\/p>\n<p>&gt; One-quarter: whole grains<\/p>\n<p>&gt; One-quarter: protein-rich foods, such as legumes, fish or lean meats.<\/p>\n<p>This can assist you in making healthier food choices and managing your portions more effectively. \u2013 Mayo Clinic News Network\/Tribune News Service<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A new year offers new beginnings and an opportunity to reset your eating habits after the holidays.
