Paramount’s “The Naked Gun” reboot, one of the year’s funniest movies, has made $1.6 million at the box office so far after Thursday previews.

It’s on track to make between $15 million and $17 million, which is a respectable start considering theatrical comedies rarely get released anymore and the film only cost $42 million to produce. It stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of original “Naked Gun” comedy icon Leslie Nielsen. He’s an incompetent police detective tasked to solve a twisty murder case in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Danny Huston, Kevin Durand, Liza Koshy and more. It’s directed by Akiva Schaffer of Lonely Island and “Saturday Night Live” fame.

None of this weekend’s new releases will be able to dethrone Marvel’s “Fantastic Four: First Steps” from atop the box office. The superhero adventure is expected to make $45 million to $52 million in its second weekend, approximately a 55% to 60% decline from last week.

Also opening this weekend is the animated, family friendly sequel “The Bad Guys 2” from Universal and DreamWorks. It’s made $2.25 million in previews and is expected to make $20 million to $25 million over the weekend, which would put it in second place behind “Fantastic Four.” The “Bad Guys 2” voice cast includes Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson and more.

Neon’s body horror movie “Together,” starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie, is the other new release this weekend, but it opened early on Wednesday. It’s on track to make $7.5 million to $10 million over the five days.

Paramount’s “The Naked Gun” reboot, one of the year’s funniest movies, has made $1.6 million at the box office…

[27
64,63,134,344,34333
post-38280","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-movies","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-movies","tag-naked-gun
["GET
