Despite making big moves in the free agency pitching market, they have yet to secure a bat. Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, Ketel Marte, Kyle Tucker, Yoan Moncada, and Kazuma Okamoto are a few names that have been linked to the Blue Jays. Some of those connections are serious, while others have been exploratory. However, the one thing on the mind of every Blue Jays fan is “when are they going to sign Bo Bichette?”

Unfortunately (and fortunately), Bichette is one of the best hitters in the MLB. That makes him an incredible asset to Toronto and a desirable one for other clubs.

However, there is a simple way forward with Bichette. It might be considered a bold move, but it can pay out massively for the player and the team.

Bold Bo Bichette Solution?

MLB insider Jeff Passan took to social media to answer fan questions. In response to a question, he outlined what he believes is happening with Bichette (and other big-name free agents).

“What they believe they’re worth has not been matched by teams,” Passan wrote on Threads on December 31st, 2025. “At this point, it’s reasonable to think at least one will slip between the cracks and go for a shorter-term, opt-out-heavy deal we’ve seen work for Pete Alonso, Matt Chapman and, for pitchers, Blake Snell. If that sort of deal would work for anyone, it might be Bichette, who could have a big year, show he’s healthy, and hit the market again at 28 years old.”

In another post, Passan discussed the chances of the Blue Jays getting at least one of Bichette, Tucker, and Bregman.

“There are scenarios where they get none. There are scenarios where they get one. There are scenarios where they get two,” Passan wrote. “For example, if Bichette goes to Boston, Bregman to Arizona, and Tucker to the Dodgers — all of which are possible. But I do think ultimately the Blue Jays will get at least one of the three.”

Why This is a Win For Bo Bichette

It’s pretty clear why Bichette would take a deal like this.

For starters, it gives him more options. If there are built-in opt-outs for a new contract with the Blue Jays, he can go to the market again and collect a bigger payday.

After all, he just recorded 181 hits, 94 RBIs, and 18 home runs as a 27-year-old. If he went back out on the market next winter, he’d still be in his prime and would easily be the best player available.

Another reason why this deal would be a win for him is that he would return to Toronto. Many journalists have spoken about how great the Blue Jays’ clubhouse was. Bichette is familiar with all of these players, and returning to the team that came so close to winning the World Series is also Bichette’s best shot at winning in 2026.

Why This is a Win For the Toronto Blue Jays

The clear win for the Blue Jays is securing Bichette’s services for the 2026 season.

If Bichette signs an opt-out-heavy contract, it’s excellent news for the Blue Jays. It means they don’t have to search for an infielder via trade or through other free-agent options. They don’t have to do extensive research to determine whether the new player they just signed has a good clubhouse personality. They don’t have to worry about their work ethic and what they do away from the field.

The familiarity in this situation is a huge bonus.

It also gives them a year to push their chips in and prove to Bichette that Toronto is where he wants to be long-term. That’s the kind of pressure that you want to have on the managers of a contending team.

More New Teams Linked to Bo Bichette

The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers have all been linked to Bichette. However, a new team has potentially entered the mix.

A user on X has pointed out a connection between the Los Angeles Angels and Bichette.

“Kazuma Okamoto is obviously the popular name for Angels fans right now, but how about Bo Bichette for 2B/3B?” the user wrote on December 30th. “Perry and multiple high-ranking Angels front office members worked for the Jays when they drafted Bichette, including their then-scouting director.”

Angels GM Perry Minasian was a scout for the Blue Jays from 2009 to 2017. Toronto drafted Bichette in 2016. Additionally, John Gibbons is the bench coach for the Angels, who served as the Blue Jays manager from 2004 to 2018.

With the competition to add Bichette getting tougher, the Blue Jays best shot at securing a reunion with their shortstop is this one bold move. It will be interesting to follow this storyline as we enter the new year.

Caleb Kerney Caleb covers the NHL for Heavy.com.
