According to a release, health officials said a teenager from Greene County died.<\/p>\n<p>Officials did not specify the teen&#8217;s age or gender, or when they died.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So far this season, flu activity has been increasing in Ohio since late November, and officials said it has increased more rapidly over the last few weeks. Activity usually peaks between December and February.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis death is tragic and our hearts go out to the family,\u201d ODH Director Bruce Vanderhoff said. \u00a0\u201cIt also reminds us that influenza, though common, is a serious health threat, and we urge parents to protect their kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state typically reports between one and seven flu-associated pediatric deaths every year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To protect against the virus, doctors recommend washing your hands frequently or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, covering coughs and sneezes with tissues, or coughing and sneezing into elbows, as well as avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Flu vaccines are available at most healthcare providers\u2019 offices, local health departments and pharmacies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those who are sick are asked to stay home.
