Stephen Colbert disclosed a hard-earned lesson after a turbulent year in late-night TV.<\/p>\n

The host appeared on CNN\u2019s \u201cNew Year\u2019s Eve Live\u201d with Andy Cohen, 57, and Anderson Cooper, 58, when Cohen drunkenly asked Colbert, 61, about the \u201cmajor lesson\u201d he learned in the past year\u2014a question Cooper had apparently warned him not to ask.<\/p>\n

Colbert\u2019s answer was blunt: \u201cDon\u2019t trust billionaires.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t get rich by finding that money on the side of the road, brother,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

The late-night host\u2019s answer, given in the final hour of 2025, came after CBS canceled his show earlier that year.<\/p>\n

In July, Colbert revealed<\/a> that The Late Show, which he had hosted since 2015 after taking over from David Letterman, had been canceled by CBS, with executives calling it \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cancellation came as CBS\u2019s parent company, Paramount, was in the process of being acquired by Skydance, owned by billionaire David Ellison, and shortly after Paramount paid $16 million to settle a lawsuit with President Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I\u2019m offended, and I don\u2019t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company,\u201d Colbert said on the show just days before it was canceled.<\/p>\n

In September, the host appeared<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as the two discussed their late-night shows being pulled from the air. <\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s show was temporarily pulled off the air by ABC<\/a> after a monologue he delivered about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk failed to impress<\/a> FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. It returned after three episodes, unlike Colbert\u2019s show, which is set to end in May 2026, with CBS standing by its decision.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

When Cohen asked about the \u201cvibe\u201d the late-night host has heading into the new year, Colbert replied with optimism.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is just fantastic. I\u2019m just going to keep that attitude every day,\u201d Colbert said, before adding that he is \u201chappy to be doing the show with everybody\u201d and that \u201cwe\u2019re going to get these bastards.\u201d<\/p>\n
