{"id":385756,"date":"2026-01-02T00:31:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T00:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/385756\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T00:31:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T00:31:10","slug":"woman-painting-in-rainforest-befriends-wild-birds-who-watch-her-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/385756\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman Painting In Rainforest Befriends Wild Birds Who Watch Her Every Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-element-index=\"0\">At<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wangat.com.au\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Wangat Lodge<\/a> in New South Wales, Australia, visitors can explore 50 acres of protected sub-tropical rainforest lands nestled along the Chichester River.<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"1\">\u200bMany of these visitors are local artists taking part in the lodge\u2019s Gumnut Artist\u2019s Retreat, an opportunity for craftspeople to work in the tranquil forest.<br \/>\u200b<br \/>Recently, Estelle, a textile artist participating in the program, was dyeing fabric for a tapestry when she noticed a tiny pair of eyes watching her from the trees.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/scale;webp=auto;jpeg_quality=60.jpg\"  alt=\"bird in tree \" width=\"792\" height=\"515\" style=\"display:block;height:auto;aspect-ratio:792 \/ 515\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>The Dodo <\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">In a flash, the small red visitor swooped down from his branch and stood right in front of Estelle\u2019s workspace, eagerly anticipating the artist\u2019s next move.<br \/>\u200b<br \/>\u201cHe was just really interested in watching me paint,\u201d Estelle said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LZxp--EEu3Q\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a video for The Dodo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767313869_581_scale;webp=auto;jpeg_quality=60.jpg\"  alt=\"red bird in forest \" width=\"792\" height=\"906\" style=\"display:block;height:auto;aspect-ratio:792 \/ 906\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>The Dodo <\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">The bird was an Australian king parrot, a species known for their bright red coloring and long tails.<br \/>\u200b<br \/>Estelle continued painting her fabric swatches, trying not to startle her new friend. Eventually, another parrot arrived, then a third, then a fourth. Soon enough, Estelle was surrounded by all of the king parrot\u2019s friends.<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"1\">\u201cI must have passed some sort of vibe test,\u201d Estelle said.<br \/>\u200b<br \/>The birds visited Estelle every day for the next week as she worked on her tapestry. Over time, Estelle began learning to differentiate between them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767313870_997_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"click to play video\" class=\"embed-video--youtube-thumb\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"0\">\u201cThey all had really distinct personalities,\u201d Estelle said. \u201cSome are really outgoing, and others were really shy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"1\">It&#8217;s especially fitting that the artist bonded with wildlife during her residency, given that her project used a variety of eco-friendly techniques. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOM1iAXEzmn\/?img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an Instagram post<\/a>, Estelle&#8217;s tapestry was made of secondhand fabric swatches, which she dyed using foraged materials, including mushrooms, tree bark and leaves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-element-index=\"2\">&#8220;Was it a bit ambitious to take on a tapestry with my wonky sewing skills?
