{"id":385953,"date":"2026-01-02T02:47:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T02:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/385953\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T02:47:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T02:47:13","slug":"riders-sought-for-surf-coast-cycling-safety-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/385953\/","title":{"rendered":"Riders sought for Surf Coast cycling safety trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL cyclists are being invited to help shape safer, more bike-friendly roads across the Surf Coast by sharing data from their rides.<\/p>\n<p>The Surf Coast Shire has partnered with See.Sense, IMOVE and the Transport Accident Commission to run a new 12-month trial, with 200 local riders to be selected.<\/p>\n<p>Each participants will receive a free See.Sense ICON3 smart bike light, which collects real-time, non-identifiable data as cyclists travel on local roads, paths and cycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The data will be used to improve cyclist safety, inform future road upgrades and support funding applications for better cycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Phoebe Crockett said a smaller pilot program had already delivered tangible results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe participated in a previous project, with 50 cyclists and focused on Torquay local roads,\u201d she said. \u201cThis data has played a key role in helping to shape the design and scope for the current Fischer Street projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now looking for all types of cyclists \u2014 families and kids riding to school, newbies, commuter cyclists, fair-weather cyclists and training cyclists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All data collected is aggregated and non-identifiable, with participants able to set privacy zones around locations such as their home.<\/p>\n<p>To apply to be part of the trial before Friday, January 9, head to surfcoast.vic.gov.au<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LOCAL cyclists are being invited to help shape safer, more bike-friendly roads across the Surf Coast by sharing&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":385954,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[569],"tags":[64,63,784,85],"class_list":{"0":"post-385953","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cycling","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-cycling","11":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/385953","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=385953"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/385953\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/385954"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=385953"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=385953"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=385953"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
