Three bushwalkers have been rescued near Federation Peak in Tasmania’s south-west after a man fell down a 5-metre cliff.<\/p>\n

Tasmania Police said the group had been walking the Eastern Arthur Range Traverse, a challenging, 6-9 day, 72-kilometre bushwalk in the Southwest National Park.<\/p>\n

Police said one of the walkers fell down a 5-metre cliff and sustained a non-life-threatening head injury.<\/p>\n

The group then used an EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon) to signal for help at about 11am on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The man received first aid from his companions before all three were rescued from the Bechervaise Plateau by helicopter at about 6pm.<\/p>\n

Authorities say many visitors to the Tasmania’s famous national parks are not prepared for the fickle weather.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The trio was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.<\/p>\n

Tasmania Police Inspector Colin Riley said the rescue was a reminder of the importance of carrying communication devices.<\/p>\n

“This rescue is a reminder to all bushwalkers that terrain can be dangerous, and it’s imperative to carry communication devices to call for assistance if required,” he said.<\/p>\n
