{"id":386752,"date":"2026-01-02T11:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/386752\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T11:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:42:09","slug":"chat-with-ireland-legend-helps-nathan-doak-decide-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/386752\/","title":{"rendered":"Chat with Ireland legend helps Nathan Doak decide future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>mens<\/p>\n<p>united-rugby-championship<\/p>\n<p>    Nathan Doak laments what could have been after Ulster lost 22-19 at home (Photo Tyler Miller\/Getty Images) <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"expand\" src=\"https:\/\/eu-cdn.rugbypass.com\/images\/common-svg\/select-arrow.svg\" height=\"6\" width=\"11\"\/>      https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/news\/urc-ulster-made-it-clear-chat-with-ireland-legend-sees-nathan-doak-put-pen-to-paper\/    <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/ulster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ulster<\/a> have secured the long-term future of scrum half <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/nathan-doak\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Doak<\/a> after he signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at the province until the summer of 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The Belfast-based side beat off considerable interest in the 24-year-old from \u2018other top clubs\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The 6\u20191, 83kg Lisburn native is closing in on 100 appearances since making his senior debut against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/munster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Munster<\/a> in January 2021 and has been a central figure in Ulster\u2019s strong 2025\/26 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Doak currently leads the URC for successful conversions with 19 and sits second overall for kicking metres as Ulster boast the most potent attack in the competition.<\/p>\n<p>His form has been recognised at international level with inclusion in Ireland\u2019s 2025 Summer Tour squad following appearances for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/ireland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ireland<\/a> A earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of the Ulster Academy and Wallace High School, Doak continues a family connection with the province, following in the footsteps of his father Neil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to have re-signed with Ulster for the next two years. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, it means everything to me,\u201d said Doak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom my discussions with Rory, he made it clear to me the direction in which he sees Ulster going and that is something I wanted to be a part of and believe we can reach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to help the team keep moving forward while also improving my own game, and I feel Ulster is the best place for me to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ulster General Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/rory-best\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rory Best<\/a> said he was pleased to fight off the interest of other clubs in his half-back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecuring Nathan\u2019s future is a key part of our squad planning for the upcoming seasons.
