{"id":388687,"date":"2026-01-03T09:21:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T09:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/388687\/"},"modified":"2026-01-03T09:21:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T09:21:07","slug":"radio-station-at-lizard-marks-125-year-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/388687\/","title":{"rendered":"Radio station at Lizard marks 125 year anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As well as being the birthplace of revolutionary types of long distance communication, Lizard Wireless Station also laid the groundworks for Guglielmo Marconi&#8217;s famous transatlantic transmission from nearby Poldhu later in 1901.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The National Trust said it was a &#8220;remarkable&#8221; site that &#8220;played a pivotal role in the early history of wireless communication and helped change how the world connects&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Geoff Bate has voluntarily managed the stations amateur transmissions since 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said: &#8220;It&#8217;s hard to describe what makes this place so special.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s the location, the history, and the people.
