Damien Martyn\u2019s partner says the Australian cricket legend is \u201cprogressing well\u201d with treatment amid a battle with meningitis.<\/p>\n

The WA-raised champion fell ill at his home on the Gold Coast on Boxing Day and was diagnosed with the serious infection in hospital, where he was placed into an induced coma.<\/p>\n

In a statement to News Corp, Martyn\u2019s partner Amanda and his family expressed their thanks \u201cfor the incredible outpouring of support our family has received\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cDamien is progressing well with his medical treatment,\u2019\u2019 the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to express our deepest appreciation to the medical team at Gold Coast University Hospital who have been nothing short of amazing throughout this challenging time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been a trying time and the family ask that you respect their privacy.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Martyn made his Test debut as a 21-year-old in 1992 and went on to establish himself as a key figure in Australia\u2019s dominance throughout the early 2000s, scoring 15,520 runs across 279 international appearances.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Martyn\u2019s former teammate Adam Gilchrist said there had been some \u201cpositive signs\u201d in his recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been so much interest and love,\u201d Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n

\u201cA fine player, terrific fella. I just hope he can continue his recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
