A crocodile has sparked fears after it was spotted in floodwaters outside of Cairns. <\/p>\n
The large reptile was filmed lurking in waters at Kruckow Bridge near Babinda, about an hour south of Cairns, on Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n
It can be seen wading along the bridge before slinking into the river in the video, which was uploaded to Facebook. <\/p>\n
One Cairns local said the sighting was \u201cone of the many reasons to stay out of floodwater\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cWith flooding and heavy rains, the crocks get cold, so they get out of the main waterways and head for the shallow backwaters where they can catch some sun and rest up,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will turn up in some very unlikely places.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another person joked: \u201cWell, there goes swimming for the next six months.\u201d<\/p>\n
Locals were quick to point out the croc was likely a local \u2014 a 4m crocodile known as Clyde.<\/p>\n
\u201cClyde making sure everybody is paying their toll to cross the bridge this wet season,\u201d one person joked.<\/p>\n
\u201cClyde just checking out the floods,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Another wasn\u2019t so sure, stating: \u201cEvery croc around Babinda is called Clyde.\u201d<\/p>\n
It comes as swathes of north Queensland were smashed by heavy rains of up to 750mm over recent days which has lead to flash flooding. <\/p>\n
Premier David Crisafulli posted a photo to Facebook on Wednesday from Julia Creek in the state\u2019s northwest which should cows wading through inundated pasture.<\/p>\n
\u201cProperties across the region have had rainfall in the hundreds of millimetres and we expect there could be significant loss of livestock,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stand ready to provide fodder and support for our primary industries.\u201d<\/p>\n
