href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> drivers during the ground-effect era of the sport.<\/p>\n<p>The four-year regulation cycle with the cars came to an end upon the conclusion of the 2025 season, and was met by a largely negative reflection from drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst improving over time, the extreme bouncing \u2013 known commonly in F1 as \u2018porpoising\u2019 \u2013 was omnipresent since the cars\u2019 introduction in the 2022 season.<\/p>\n<p>And Gasly, who completed his eighth season in F1 last year and is readying himself for his ninth in 2026, believes that the level of movement would cause long-term effects to drivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one thing we haven\u2019t really been too happy as drivers is just the amount of bouncing,\u201d the Frenchman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, ground effect cars need to run as low as you can, but physically for our backs, I think we all agree that it\u2019s been rough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not sustainable over like a full career, so I think that\u2019s a good thing, that they sort of moved away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img implications to drivers<\/p>\n<p>The porpoising triggered complaints throughout the cycle, with Max Verstappen and Oliver Bearman recently being drivers who were outspoken on the pain the cars were causing them.<\/p>\n<p>Infamously, at the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton revealed post-race that he was \u201cpraying for the race to end\u201d after suffering from extreme porpoising.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-time World Champion was pushed to an extent that he even found it a struggle to extricate himself from his Mercedes car after arriving in parc ferme after the chequered flag.<\/p>\n<p>Porpoising was recently recognised by the FIA\u2019s single-seater director, Nikolas Tombazis, as an oversight when the regulations were drawn up.<\/p>\n<p>And despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-f1-rules-for-2026.48bv0VTxhIlhrQXmxercXk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the 2026 rulebook<\/a> boasting new aerodynamic features on cars, which should render ground-effect a thing of the past, Tombazis warned that the issue may not be completely eradicated.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE
