But an embassy shutdown almost derailed Shamsi\u2019s hopes of making his Big Bash League debut.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just got into Perth last night and here I was a few hours later on the field,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got the Visa as soon as we could.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe embassy closed down for New Year\u2019s celebrations so it was a little bit of panic not knowing when I\u2019m going to fly \u2013 but my bags were packed.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be honest, I don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s a weekend or a weekday \u2013 I don\u2019t know what day it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
Arriving in Perth on Saturday night, Shamsi only met his new teammates hours before the clash with the Scorchers.<\/p>\n
But now he\u2019s got the debut under the belt, the spin star is prepared to take on the competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Big Bash I\u2019ve always wanted to be a part of it \u2026 it\u2019s really nice to finally be part of the comp,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve worn the bib here a lot of times. Whenever I come here with South Africa, they go with four seamers \u2013 pace and bounce.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was nice to actually get here. I\u2019ve always left here sad as I never got the opportunity to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Opening up on his trademark shoe phone celebration, Shamsi said it\u2019s something fans will see more of.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s basically sometimes when we take a wicket, the umpire checks with the third umpire if it\u2019s out or not out so that\u2019s just me phoning the third umpire to confirm if it\u2019s out or not out,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of misconceptions that it\u2019s a send off for the batter \u2013 but it\u2019s absolutely not that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Strikers\u2019 genius ploy to go spin heavy in Perth almost paid off with Shamsi admitting it was a set plan to try and take down the Scorchers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was only supposed to join later. I got the call like listen you\u2019ve got to get to Perth, we\u2019re going to bowl more spin,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt did work out.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe teams coming in the future might change their plans as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cMe being from South Africa I\u2019ve always known Perth is pace and bounce \u2013 you play your fast bowlers.<\/p>\n
\u201c(It\u2019s) good planning form our management.\u201d<\/p>\n
