Questions over Collingwood’s list have continued since the club’s preliminary final defeat, with concerns surrounding the club’s emerging talent having been constant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Magpies will carry the oldest list into the league once again, but the gap to the next most experienced side has significantly shortened after a host of veterans left Olympic Park.<\/p>\n

Some minor tweaks via the trade and draft periods have strengthened some clear list needs, but the club couldn’t secure the experienced quality midfielder it was chasing.<\/p>\n

With the Magpies looking to uncover their next wave of talent while still relying on their most senior figures, we take a look at what Collingwood’s best 23 for 2026 might look like…<\/p>\n

Defenders<\/p>\n

Collingwood’s rearguard was a clear positive in 2025, having conceded the fewest points during the home and away season while being a touch undermanned.<\/p>\n

Skipper Darcy Moore<\/a> returned to form and was rock solid, while Brayden Maynard<\/a> and Jeremy Howe<\/a> were reliable as ever.<\/p>\n

Isaac Quaynor<\/a> lifted too, often shutting down the opposition’s best small forward to alleviate some of the ground-level pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That senior quartet will lead from the back in 2026, with Billy Frampton<\/a> to try and hold his place as the second tall defender after a 16-game season last year.<\/p>\n

Reef McInnes<\/a> could press his case for a recall after missing most of 2025 with an ACL injury, having developed into a backman who has been highly rated internally.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The half-back options will be a talking point to start the new season, with Josh Daicos<\/a> becoming the club’s main distributor in 2025 despite the arrival of All-Australian Dan Houston.<\/p>\n

The latter struggled to continue his starring form in his new colours, moving up to the wing by the end of last season.<\/p>\n

Daicos could return to the midfield mix and allow Houston to thrive once again, but whether those magnets will be moved is a waiting game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Harry Perryman<\/a> and Jack Crisp<\/a> are set to shift between midfield and defence, while Wil Parker<\/a> looks to be at the front of the queue for those looking to break into the best 23.<\/p>\n

The Magpies have some young backmen who will eye more senior action, led by Harry DeMattia<\/a>, Jakob Ryan<\/a> and Tew Jiath<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
