{"id":391944,"date":"2026-01-04T23:00:05","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T23:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/391944\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T23:00:05","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T23:00:05","slug":"flu-cases-in-eastern-iowa-continue-to-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/391944\/","title":{"rendered":"Flu cases in Eastern Iowa continue to rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) &#8211; The number of flu cases continues to rise across the state. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Iowa Department of Heath and Human Services said 47 schools across Iowa had at least 10% of students out with illness during the week before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">St. Luke\u2019s Hospital in Cedar Rapids said it expects the number of cases to continue to grow because of the time people spent in close quarters over the holidays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dr. Dustin Arnold, St. Luke\u2019s Hospital Chief Medical Officer, said the hospital had about 60 cases of flu before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The week after, cases had tripled. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dr. Arnold said even if you test positive for the flu with an at-home test, it\u2019s still worth seeing the doctor to be prescribed a medication, like Tamiflu, to help with symptoms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt may lessen the intensity of the illness. So you may not be as fatigued or have complications from that. So it does reduce hospitalizations,\u201d Dr. Arnold said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dr. Arnold said while Flu cases are high, the number of COVId-19 cases right now are low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KCRG.
