VJ Edgecombe is becoming a sharpshooter in Philly<\/p>\n
Rookie sensation VJ Edgecombe<\/a> has been a human highlight reel in his debut season with the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>.<\/p>\n Edgecombe, who was taken third overall in the 2025 NBA<\/a> Draft, entered the league with immense potential, as scouts raved about his athleticism and scoring upside.<\/p>\n His only major blemish was his streaky shooting, with many predicting that the former Baylor standout would be a subpar shooter at the pro level.<\/p>\n So far, that assessment couldn\u2019t be further from the truth.<\/p>\n Edgecome, 20, is averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists through 29 games. Impressively, the Sixers rookie is shooting 38 percent from deep. His 65 three-pointers made are second among all rookies.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s been awesome,\u201d said Sixers head coach Nick Nurse. \u201cI think just, again, the composure. I think that he has it just so steady out there. He plays like a 10-year vet with his composure.\u201d<\/p>\n Although rim-rocking dunks and emphatic blocks have led to several viral moments for Edgecome, his consistency from deep has been a pleasant surprise for Philly.<\/p>\n During the Sixers\u2019 victory on Saturday over the New York Knicks<\/a>, Edgecombe erupted for 26 points, two steals and two blocks while shooting 4-for-9 from deep.<\/p>\n Over his last ten games, the Rookie of the Year candidate is splashing 40 percent of his three-point attempts. Edgecombe is averaging 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists over that span.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s cold,\u201d Tyrese Maxey said of his rookie teammate<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t want to say cocky, but it\u2019s a good cocky.\u201d<\/p>\n VJ Edgecombe Has Been Better Than Advertised GettyVJ Edgecombe is averaging 20 points over his last 10 games<\/p>\n When the Sixers selected Edgecombe third overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, they knew they were getting a uber athletic guard with two-way potential.<\/p>\n Many figured his rookie role would largely consist of being an effective slasher and pesky defender in Philly.<\/p>\n Edgecombe has delivered on that promise, already amassing an impressive dunk highlight reel while leading all rookies in steals per game (1.4).<\/p>\n However, he has also been an effective long-range shooter, making him a potent scoring threat in Philly.<\/p>\n When discussing the impact Edgecombe had made in Philly,\u00a0 Tyrese Maxey hilariously expressed gratitude for the Sixers drafting the Bahamian guard.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re blessed to have him,\u201d Maxey told reporters on New Year\u2019s Day. \u201cSuper. Thank you, basketball gods, Lord, Baylor, I don\u2019t know. Daryl Morey. Everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n Over his last ten games, Edgecombe has scored 20+ points in all but three contests, while shooting 47 percent over that span. How much does he want to work?
