Campbell will need a few days before he makes decisions, and gave himself an \u201cF\u201d this season<\/p>\n
On Monday, he was asked if he plans to stay the course or make wholesale changes, on the heels of a down year. It\u2019s something Campbell\u2019s alluded to \u2014 decisions on the horizon for him and GM Brad Holmes \u2014 but it appears Campbell is going to take his time.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, I don\u2019t want to make any decisions that I\u2019m not prepared to really think through,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cSo, I\u2019m going to need a little bit here. I\u2019m going to need a few days to really think about this and deep dive some areas. And I\u2019m willing to do whatever it takes. Whatever is best for this team, I\u2019m going to do. What I believe is best for this team, I will do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vague words from Campbell, but he wasn\u2019t expected to say much, anyway. This was the last time we\u2019ll talk to him before the combine. By then, the Lions could have new coaches on staff. At a minimum, he needs to hire a tight ends coach, after the departure of Tyler Roehl to Iowa State. But the futures of his coordinators are still being assessed.<\/p>\n
That said, if there are going to be high-level changes, expect a decision to come sooner rather than later, as staff meetings unfold this week. Anthony Lynn was fired a day after the 2021 season concluded, for reference.<\/p>\n
As for Campbell, he\u2019s not absolving himself from the problems we saw this season.<\/p>\n
